Describe the aspects of web development/tech that most excite you.

Explain what your goals are for after this course and what you plan on doing outside of

class to help you get there. If you know of any barriers that you’re comfortable writing

publicly about, please share them and state what you think you can do to help you

overcome them. Ensure that your responses are written in complete sentences.

The intersection between creativity and technology is exactly where I want to be. I love

art. I love painting. I love colors. I’m good at bringing ideas from my head and

transferring them onto a page.

But why does my passion and talent have to end on paper? Why not take it to the next

level, explore other avenues of creation and connecting with an audience, and see my

work on a platform that can live on and on?

In the same way that Semiotics conveys a message whether it is intended to or not is

the same way that art communicates life. Whether we realize it or not, even to those

who object to having a single artistic bone in their body, as people we live for art. We

live to create. Life is art in many forms. I’m excited to bring my creativity to the next

level–TO CHALLENGE MYSELF. To change my way of thinking!

I am optimistic about taking the skills I acquire in this program and contributing them to

the passion causes that I am involved with. I am a diehard dog rescue advocate, and

with me re-circulating into the volunteer/rescue circuit, I can offer other skills such as

graphic design, sharper social media skills, upgrading the website to take the doggy

profiles to the next level!

I recently signed up as a nurse assistant volunteer at Cedars Sinai Hospital. When I

start, I look forward to seeing how I can offer any web design skills either to the hospital

or to enrich the lives of the patients I will work with.

I am neurodivergent, or as many Gen-Z-ers on social media call it, I am “neurospicy.” I

was diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, and as I suspect dyscalculia. Now that I could finally

get diagnosed and access resources to help me with these things, I identify my ADHD

as my superpower. My OCD has become a lot more manageable since getting treatment and cognitive

therapy for it.

I’ve always had a really difficult time with math and some forms of science, and for most

of my grade school career I barely flew under the radar (and as I suspect I was passed

through numerous times even when I wasn’t ready.) I had no idea what dyscalculia was

until I became an adult. The taunting and exclusion I faced from my peers, and the

targeting, ridicule, and public-humiliation I sometimes experienced from teachers really

crushed me when I tried to overcome my learning challenges and still fell short.

Because of these experiences, whenever faced with the possibility of math or science

related obstacles, I would shrink down and become the same painfully shy displaced 9

year-old and paralyzed-with-fear 13 year old I was when my learning challenges were

ostracized the most.

Joining a web development/tech program that could present challenges for me is a

joyous opportunity because it’s a chance for me to reach out for help amongst a

community of women who are not here to judge me, and it gives me another opportunity

to further my life. I value education, and getting the chance to keep learning.
